AI, Morality, and Safety
Artificial Narrow Intelligence or ANI is better at multi-tasking, but whether it is ethical or safe depends. This growth does not signal automatic alignment with human ethics, values, morality, and the like, which are constantly being questioned and attacked by certain sections of society. It is therefore not surprising that AI itself, although it may not replicate these negative or critical perceptions, can appear to negate or stay silent on certain aspects, as tuned and trained. It also depends on what we call "smart," if its reasoning exceeds, or better said, is different from yours, since it may not always conform to standard benchmarks. Humans in the loop will always be important and necessary, and safety, as an inevitable addition, must always be engineered, even for the next phase of Gen AI.
Let's talk about the J-curve!
Simply put, the AI J-curve demonstrates the decline in productivity and efficiency that occurs when AI technologies are applied, and impacts development, training, and the related areas. After stability and habituation are reached, the curve takes a 'J' form in an upward direction, where production and efficiency combined rise or plateau, leading to a streamlined process.
So Just Like the Chicken or the Egg…
As children, we learn the English alphabet and simple sequences such as number patterns, the order of letters, the logic that makes things make sense. But AI can scramble even the slightest sequence if you don’t give it the correct structure. Training is key...and trust me, you don’t want to miss the closed‑loop dependency.
Reality Check
Sheets and books feel personal when they're physical, but become professional the moment they hit the digital ground. In practice, each form acts as a placeholder where these roles can be exchanged based on how they're used. Data can be automated in the virtual space, but automation hasn't fully leaped into the physical realm. It's the tension between reality accommodating digitization and virtual reality becoming ideal.
Vanishing in Humans vs AI
Vanishing online isn't the same as vanishing in AI.
The former is about the absence of signal, nothing remains for a system or a person to process, so no learning occurs.
The latter is about the attenuation of a signal, as the signal moves through the network, it shrinks to the point where it can no longer teach the model effectively, causing ineffective learning.
Put simply:
The first emphasizes moving on with no signal at all. The second emphasizes a signal moving through layers and becoming too weak to matter.
AI Brain Fry: The Brunt of Speed
The mental exhaustion comes from switching between multiple tasks constantly; even when each task requires less effort, the speed still takes a toll. But you matter more than the tools you use, so stay the star contributor of your work and let AI support your thinking, not take the lead.
